Summer Movie List 2010

My yearly blog entry to appease Frey (and to help me keep track of what I want to see). Titles linked to trailers for your convenience.

May

7th - Iron Man 2 - Sounds like it's not quite as good as the first one, but still enjoyable.

14th - Robin Hood - Looks like Ridley Scott based this on absolutely nothing and just named it Robin Hood for sales.

21st - MacGruber - Looks like another SNL flop to me, but I guess I'll wait and see before I pass my final judgment.

21st - Shrek Forever After - Early reviews show this being just as bad the 3rd. RIP Shrek series...shoulda stopped after 2.

28th - Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - Could this be the first video game made into a good movie? I doubt it.

June

4th - Get Him to the Greek - Forgetting Sarah Marshall wasn't even that great so I'm not sure why they felt the need for a spinoff without any of the main characters and adding P Diddy.

4th - Killers - Mr. and Mrs. Smith but without awesome actors.

4th - Splice - This is either going to be awesome or awesomely bad.

11th - The A-Team - Calling it right now, this will be the biggest flop of the summer.

11th - Karate Kid - Jackie Chan might make this enjoyable but other than that it won't hold a candle to the original.

18th - Toy Story 3 - heart

18th - Jonah Hex - Hoping that Megan Fox's acting skills (or lack thereof) don't ruin this movie cuz it looks kinda cool.

25th - Grown Ups - An amazing cast of comedians, hopefully it delivers.

25th - Knight and Day - Looks exactly like a Mission Impossible movie.

July

2nd - The Last Airbender - Curios to see what M. Night Shamalamadingdong can do with an anime.

9th - Predators - I wrote this one off since there hasn't been a good Predator movie since the original, but after watching the trailer I'm definitely interested.

9th - Despicable Me - Based on the commercials I know absolutely nothing about this movie but that doesn't prevent me from wanting to see it.

16th - Inception - Definitely looks like the type of movie that you'll have to put your thinking cap on for.

16th - The Sorcerer's Apprentice - I can't even remember the last good movie starring Nick Cage, but I'll give him another shot.

23rd - Dinner for Schmucks - Paul Rudd and Steve Carell are what give me hope for this movie being funny.

23rd - Salt - I think everyone is hitting the nail on the head by calling this the Female Jason Bourne movie.

30th - The Adjustment Bureau - Really have nothing to say about this one except that I'm intrigued.

August

6th - The Other Guys - Mark Whalhlberg and Will Ferrell could make for a pretty funny comedy duo.

13th - The Expendables - Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin and cameos from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger...that has got to be the most ass-kickingest cast ever assembled.

13th - Scott Pilgrim vs The World - Michael Cera fighting his new girlfriend's seven exes...in Mortal Kombat fashion. Awesome.

There you have it, my Top 25 movies of Summer 2010. All in all, kind of a down year but there could be some real sleeper hits in there.

By Popular Demand, Here's Summer Movie List 2009

As always, the movie titles are linked to the trailers plus an added bonus this year: the commentary is provided free of charge!

MAY
1st - X-Men Origins: Wolverine - If you enjoyed the X-Men Trilogy, then you'll enjoy this one. A great action movie to start off Summer '09.
8th - Star Trek - Never been a Star Trek fan, but this movie has seriously piqued my interest. Plus you can always count on J.J. Abrams to deliver an action-packed thrill ride.
15th - Angels And Demons - Just like Da Vinci Code, this will be a love it or hate it movie depending on which side of the religious line you fall on.
21st - Terminator Salvation - Normally I'd just brush this off since the 3rd movie and TV series are both a joke, but Christian Bale as John Connor leads me to believe there's hope for this one.
22nd - Night At The Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian - Looks to be a clone of the first movie which was fairly entertaining so I guess we'll see if Ben Stiller can bring anything new to this one.
29th - Up - I'd marry Pixar if I could. They have yet to make a bad movie.
29th - Drag Me to Hell - Sam Raimi getting back to his Evil Dead roots. This should be interesting.

JUNE
5th - Land of the Lost - Used to watch the TV show remake all the time, but with Will Ferrell playing the leading role I don't see this being any more than a campy movie fest. Will be interesting to see how they've updated the Sleestaks though.
5th - The Hangover - The plot to this one seems pretty crazy and should be chock full of situational comedy. It's from the director of Road Trip and Old School so it should be decent.
12th - The Taking of Pelham 123 - The cast alone makes this one worth seeing: Denzel Washington, John Travolta, John Turturro, James Gandolfini, Luis Guzmán.
19th - Year One - Jack Black and the cast of Superbad star in this one so it should be pretty hilarious, plus there's bound to be tons of jokes about religion.
26th - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - More transformers and more Megan Fox. Need I say more?

JULY
1st - Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - The first two Ice Age movies are pretty entertaining (and gorgeous on blu-ray) so adding dinosaurs to the mix should make things even better.
1st - Public Enemies - An interesting premise: Johnny Depp is a gangster being chased by Christian Bale a police officer set in the 1930s, which apparently leads to the formation of the FBI.
10th - Brüno - Another crazy fake character movie made by Sacha Baron Cohen. Should be good for quite a few laughs at the expense of how stupid Americans are.
15th - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - It's about damn time this gets released. It's been so long I'm gonna have to go back and re-read the book.
24th - G-Force - "A team of highly trained Guinea Pigs are dispatched to take down an evil billionaire who wants to destroy the world with household appliances." What the hell, Disney?
31st - Funny People - Written and directed by Judd Apatow and starring Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler this could very well be the funniest movie of the summer.

AUGUST
7th - G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - From the same guy who made Van Helsing, I'm really afraid this movie is gonna suck despite how badly I want it to be awesome.
21st - Inglourious Basterds - Quentin Tarantino directing a movie set in WWII starring Brad Pitt. This has the potential to be the most graphically violent movie ever made.

20 potentially awesome movies pretty well spread out over 3.5 months and not a single M. Night Shyamalan movie in sight. Should be a good summer.

You know it's bad when even Time calls you out as a sleazy liar

John McCain and the Lying Game

Taken from the article:

"The good news is that the vile times may be ending. The coming debates will decide this race, and it isn't easy to tell lies when your opponent is standing right next to you. The Wall Street collapse demands a more sober campaign as well. But these dreadful weeks should not be forgotten. John McCain has raised serious questions about whether he has the character to lead the nation. He has defaced his beloved military code of honor. He has run a dirty campaign."

I can't wait for the debates! McCain will finally be exposed as the unknowledgeable, mud-slinging politician that he has become over these past few months.

Also, nobody does it better than Jon Stewart. He's gotta be loving all the easy material that McCain/Palin are giving him to work with.

Even Colbert knows McCain is full of shit.
